I use my Treo 680 for a lot of things. PDA, MP3 Player, Video Player, and yes…Phone. The other day I noticed that anytime I tried to make a call I could not hear anything being said. The usual speakerphone option during the call was also absent. I tried playing a video or MP3’s and got the same result – no sound.
I was ready to throw my Treo away (or at least return it to the Cingular store where I bought it). Before doing either one of those drastic things, I searched the web to find out that I was not alone in my sound troubles. People were suggesting that I reset (which I did) or that I hard reset (which I was not yet willing to do). Some had already called Palm, had their phones erased, only to have the same problem when it came back online (only this time there data was all gone).

I luckily found someone that had figured out the problem. There are times when you use a wired headset that the treo thinks it is still connected to the headset. Hence, the sound was really there, it was just being redirected to the headset port rather than the speaker. The solution…plug in your wired headset and then remove it. Voila! The Treo 680 was back in business.

I have noticed a few quirks like this in my Treo. So far I have accepted them as quirks and still enjoy the device. I do hope, however, that Palm gets it in gear and iron’s out the kinks.
